Over our first three years we trialled a variety of clothing and expectations around when and how our kākahu should be worn.

Next year we are moving to compulsory kākahu for every day wear for all Puna. There are a number of reasons for this. We have listened to the concerns about the ever growing mountains of lost property and  the challenge of getting our pononga into  a reasonable standard of dress when welcoming manuhiri or travelling off site (which is frequent) So we have come up with our own range of clothing that we hope you agree passes the tests of being bold, beautiful and affordable.

We are happy to announce that we have partnered up with ROKKET, a leading business in Australia and New Zealand in providing sports and school uniforms, and you can now order your Kākahu for the upcoming 2018 year.

All the kākahu are available from kids sizes 2- 16 and adults s – 7XL. There will be samples sizes available at our Kai hau Kai Summer Festival 9th Dec 2017. Look for the Te Pā Kākahu stall. Sizing charts are also available for all garments.

All the designs have been done using sublimation – meaning they will not fade or crack – AND we have secured a significant discount for good quality, long lasting garments.

But wait theres more – to encourage you all to get on board with our new kākahu, cause I personally can’t wait to see our whole pā kitted out on the first day next year,  Te Tautarinui (our board) is offering an amazing –  one time only –  package deal that ends 20 December 2017 of 50% off the compulsory kākahu pack. This consists of:

1 polo shirt

1 Jacket

1 black bottom (trackpants, shorts or tights)!!

(*Conditions apply).

That means you can outfit  your tamaiti for less than the cost of  just one item if you order and put down a deposit of just $25 before Christmas! You will need to pay the balance in the new year when you pick up, before school starts.

Please be sure to read the guidelines prior to ordering so you can understand each Puna dress code and requirement. From 2018 each Puna will have their own colours as follows:

Puna Hauaitū (years 1 – 3): Purple and Orange

Puna Waimarie (Years 4 – 6): Blue and Black

Puna Karikari, Uruao (Years 7 – 13): Green and Black

Number Ones

We will also continue to wear number 1s for special occasions in Puna Karikari and Te Waka Uruao as follows:

Puna Karikari (Yrs 7 – 10)

Girls – Number Ones black skirt (knee length)

Boys – Number ones Trousers (Can be purchased at Farmers or Hallensteins)

These will be worn with the polos and jackets above.

Te Waka Uruao (Yrs 11-13)

Number 1s black pair of trousers or black skirt

1 green shirt

1 tie

1 vest

(The shirt, tie and vest can be purchased from Te Rito)

We appreciate that some of you have already bought a lot of Te Pā kākahu and Pononga will still be able to wear the Te Pā t-shirts, polos and hoodies next year. They will need to wear black bottoms with them daily. We would really like to encourage you to take advantage of the Board special and get them a new kākahu pack for 2018 as well.
